Co-founders Colin McKinnon-Dodd & Darron Atkinson’s chief reason behind the “One-Fire” concept was one to reflect the diversity amongst Aboriginal people.

The name “One-Fire” was a vehicle name where any dancer from any region could bring his “fire” – his story and his magic – and join in with others to create fire, dance and song.

Major events that One-Fire has performed at include Moomba ’96-’97, Festival of Melbourne, the President’s Cup Golfing Tournament, welcoming ceremonies for the Wurrundjri people of Melbourne, several international invitations to perform on a national level, and so much more! In fact, One-Fire has performed at over thirty festivals in and around Melbourne.

The Dance Troope leaders are Jeff & John Tye, performing visual artists from the Murray River region of Victoria. Both are Yorta Yorta men, a northern tribe on the Victoria-New South Wales border.

One-Fire was given to Jeff & John Tye in by Colin McKinnon-Dodd as a gesture of thanks for the respect and promotion they’ve given Mia Mia Gallery since the dance troope’s inception.
